The Surgeon of Missions

Ramón Pérez Rosich is a renowned professional who has developed an outstanding career as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon. Dr. Pérez is known as the “Surgeon of Missions” because he devotes his time performing humanitarian services in favor of underserved communities in the United States and in other countries.


The dental surgeon who plays sports and possess an analytical personality, is the son of Margarita Rosich and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, Dr. Ramón A. Pérez García Sr.


Ramón Pérez Rosich was born in Puerto Rico and shares his work and life with his wife, Jasmin Ortiz-Batir, with whom he has four children: Ramon, Lucas, Isabel and Gabriela Pérez. The latter has followed in her father’s and grandfather’s example and is pursuing her studies in Dentistry.


Pérez Rosich met Jasmin while attending school at the Inter-American University of Puerto Rico and was captivated by her beauty, intelligence and humbleness. They have been together for 19 years, rooted in their faith in Christ, love and solidarity.


He started his career inspired by the example of his father, Dr. Ramón A. Pérez García Sr., with whom he traveled on missions’ trips to Honduras, Belize, Santa Cruz, Haiti and the Dominican Republic, where they performed free dental services in various deprived communities.


By observing how his father served others and helping with dental extractions, the young Pérez Rosich, who was studying to be a mechanical engineer at Ohio State University realized that he should change course and follow in his father’s footsteps.


It was not easy to start a new professional journey, but he was certain he had found his vocation and decided to study pre-dentistry at the Inter-American University, Rio Piedras, Puerto Rico, where he stayed from June 1996 to May 1998.


From June 1998 to May 2002, he studied a dental career at the University of Puerto Rico, School of Dentistry, from where he earned his Dental degree. From June 2002 to June 2007, he studied at the School of Dentistry of Nova Southeastern University in Davie, Florida, earning his specialty degree on Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.


In 2007, he opened his first private practice which have grown into the three offices in South Florida.

Humanitarians Missions

Dr. Pérez has also developed a respectful reputation in supporting community services, as the “Surgeon of Missions” with the sole purpose of improving the living conditions of those in need. He has also participated in numerous outreach projects. One of the first events where he was able to offer dental care was in 1996 in the communities of Honduras.


In 1997, he participated as a volunteer in a dental and medical mission in Southern Belize, that lasted three weeks and then did similar work in 1998, for two weeks.


In 1999, he participated in a construction mission in the island of Saint Croix (Santa Cruz) and helped build a church and a school during hurricane George’s aftermath.


Later, in the year 2000, he went on a short-term mission trip that provided dental services to an orphanage located in Puerto Principe, Haiti, considered one of the poorest countries in Latin America.


From 2007 to 2018, he organized several men’s retreat with the purpose of helping them improve their spiritual and mental behaviors, as well as improving their personal, business and marital relationships.


In 2010, Pérez Rosich organized several missions that help to build homes in the underserved communities in the Dominican Republic.


From 2008 to 2017, he promoted and worked many “Improving your Health” fairs, offering medical and dental services, free of charge (nonprofit), for low income families located in Pembroke Pines, Little Haiti, Immokalee, Kissimmee and Homestead, Florida.


In 2017, Dr. Pérez and his team traveled to Puerto Rico to provide emergency assistance to hurricane Maria’s victims. They charter an airplane that transported more than 12,000 pounds of food and medications. On the way back, they transported 12 patients that required medical assistance to Florida.


In 2018, and in collaboration with singer/songwriter and Pastor, Roberto Orellana, Pérez Rosich led a dental mission in Honduras, where people in need were provided with dental services as well as ophthalmology care. In addition, during their time in Honduras, the Doctor and his team assisted in the construction of a local hospital.


As the “Surgeon of Missions” continues to successfully work as an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon, he also organizes humanitarian outreach projects to help improve the living conditions of thousands of people in need in the United States and other countries.

A Young Leader

At his early age, Pérez Rosich excelled as a leader in his student and work life. In 1993, as a Senior High School student, he was elected President of the school’s class and Honor Society and in 1998, he became the Vice-President of the Freshman Dental Class. Additionally, in that same year, he organized the Welcome Ceremony of the Freshman Class of the Dental School. Pérez Rosich, hosted a very large conference for all five schools in post grad, nursing, public health, medicine, dental and dental assistants. motivational speaker at a conference hosted by the School of Dentistry, Pharmacy, Public Health and Medicine. Similarly, from 1999 to 2001, he showed leadership while being the President of the Dental School class.


From 2000 to 2001, he served as liaisons between the students and The Dean Office from the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Puerto Rico.


Pérez Rosich continued to develop his leadership and in 2001 he became a representative of the Accreditation of School for the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Puerto Rico, where he was the elected representative of the ASDA Class for four years, serving in this position from 1998 to 2002.


He is the founder of “I Am For You”, a nonprofit organization that offers free medical services and dental care since 2015. Through this organization, he works in providing food, as well as, building houses and organizing relief efforts to aid people in need.


His faith in Christ and his commitment were the key factor that, from 2013 to 2017, led him to serve as a minister in the capacity of Associate Pastor of Auditorio de la Fe Church. Further, from 2015 to present he has been a Member of the Board for His House Children’s Home, a private nonprofit organization that aids children, adolescents and families in need from South Florida.

Extensive Experience

Pérez Rosich has an extensive professional practice, that started when he worked as a Surgical Assistant, a position he performed from January 1994 to January 1996 at the Center of Maxillofacial Surgery in Columbus, Ohio. He also worked as a Surgical Adjunct, applying anesthesia to patients.


From June to July 2001, he performed external practices in Oral and Maxillofacial surgery at Ohio’s State University, School of Dentistry. He received training in operating rooms and clinics, working the night shift, with two weeks’ rotations.


Furthermore, he also performed external practices in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, from July to August 2001 at the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of Puerto Rico, Rio Piedras Campus. And he did night shifts and the trauma center of UDH.


As part of his post-doctoral education, Pérez Rosich completed an internship as a Resident in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, from July 2002 to July 2003 at the School of Dentistry of Nova Southeastern University, in Florida.


For about a year, he did daily visits, performed night shift duties at the VA Hospital, for the OPD clinic, where he held rotation shifts in the operating room, fulfilling the program requirements.

Certifications Achievements

Pérez Rosich earned his Dental license in 2002 and his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon certification in 2007. Further, he was certified as a Health Care Provider and ACLS accredited in 2007. He holds a Dental License in Puerto Rico and was accredited by the Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation (CITA) in 2007 and by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS), which has been recognized and approved by the Board of Dentistry Education of the American Board of Association.


Since March 2013 to present, he has been a consultant for Solstice Dental Insurance, which offers services in Florida, New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.

Conference and Publications

In his professional practice, Pérez Rosich has made presentations on scientific issues in various forums. In this order, he made presentations on Oral Melanoma, at the ASDA Convention, where he earned several awards: The Lippincott Award, 2001 and The Cruz Azul Award.


In 2007, he published on the matter of “Arthroscopic, Arthroplasty with Rigid Fixation, Preliminary Results in Treatment of Wilkes Internal Joint Derangement Stages II-V: A three-year retrospective Study.”


The same year, Pérez Rosich wrote a study, still unpublished, based on topics presented at the conference.


The surgeon is affiliated with recognized professionals’ organizations. Since 1998, he is a member of ASDA (American Student Dental Association), an organization that protects and advances the rights, interests and welfare of dental students.


He is a member of AAOMS (American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons) since 2002, and he is affiliated to Baptist Hospital of Miami since May 20, 2008 to present days.

Honors

Pérez Rosich has received several awards for his professional and personal contributions, such as, The Lippincott Award and the Blue Cross Award for Outstanding Table Clinic, both received in 2001, the Pierre Fouchard Award for Academic Achievements and Leadership in 2002 and; in that same year, the Puerto Rico Dental Society Leadership Award.
